Candy Cane Cocoa

So what do you do on a cold winters day, when you have whipping cream that needs to get used, and candy canes from Christmas?

You make hot cocoa of course!

Never again

So a friend last year reminded me of this kid craft of crayons and wax paper. So this year I decided to try and do it.

It was fun

The kids enjoyed it

Peeling the crayons was a pain

Crayons bleed through wax paper and stain

When you have a 3 year old busy body, crayon shavings get ALL OVER the floor

So...yes, there fun

yes, there cute

and no, i'll never do them again

Painful enlightment

I walked in the time was exactly 11:32 am. I checked in with receptionist who greeted me warmly with a smile, a smile that seemed a little menacing to me. She took my name, told me to have a seat they would be with me in moment. "Who is this 'they'?" I wondered, well I would soon find out. She was right, "they" proved to be one woman, Kim. She was casually dressed in her white lab coat, comfortable yet stylish brown dress shoes and hair pulled back in true professional fashion. I followed her, my heart pitter patting with every slow step I took. I hadn't done this in years. For a good reason, yes. This was dangerous territory. This experience was going to be painful. I wasn't sure I was ready. Could I turn and run? Would I make it to the door in time? The receptionist seemed to sense my thoughts I saw her swivel her chair on its wheels body in full frontal facing position of the door as if expecting me to put my running shoes into action. Perhaps something like this had happened before. I sighed, my shoulders rolled forward, my head dropped a little, I was already defeated.
"have a seat right here" Kim politely told me. "Of course I will" I thought, "there are no other chairs around and well, that's the kind you need me in to perform this type of torture."
"I am very sensitive" I said. "I am a little nervous, its been a few years and really I don't like being here." No one ever does.
I sat back, the chair reclined the sounds and smells were overpowering me. I shoved my hands deep into my pockets hoping they wouldn't start shaking.
The bright light overhead I had to blink to try and regain focus. I could see her shadow face, mask, and eye goggles looming down towards me sharp metal objects in hand. I knew instinctively what to do next.
I opened my mouth.
I can't say exactly what happened during the next 20 minutes or so. I tried several times for an out of body experience but for some reason I couldn't get myself on that beach in Hawaii. I remember scraping sounds, quiet voices, sudden rushes of cold over my already painful teeth. Sharp painful pokes and scraping noises. When it was finally all over my bib was removed quickly for me not to notice the blood stains that were laying there. Too late, I saw, but I lived through it. "Should we schedule you in 6 months Danyelle?" Asked a polite Kim. "No" I said, but thinking "why in the WORLD would I want to come back in 6 months for this type of torture?" Of course she convinced me otherwise and so end of July I will return once again.
But as I left I realized, this wasn't so horrific. I got a free toothbrush from the deal. And well, since Jim needs a new toothbrush, I scheduled an appointment for him.

Tired

I just called to schedule 3 eye appointments. Emma, Addy and Jim. Just scheduling the appointments and trying to find days/times that will work exhausted me. I can't schedule the girls at the same time so for 2 days in the middle of the afternoon, during what should be a rest time. During what would be lunch. I will get to hang out with four FOUR kids for an 1 1/2 -2 hr appointment. I think its time to invest in some handheld games!

right now

My children are playing the PS2, they are playing the Simpson's racing game. I realize that my children are video game nerds. Neither of them really know how to work the controls. I don't think they even know that its called a video game. Yet, they catch on... kinda. Brennon keeps coming to me to get him "unstuck". And as I type this I hear Emma say to Brennon "I need driving lessons" HAHA. Of course at a friends Christmas party last night Jim got a taste for what the new Nintendo Wii can really do. Of course we both want one...Of course there pretty hard to get (unless your a crazy person who stands in line at 5 am, no mention of names here right Sarah??) But when we do get it they can have the PS2 and Jim and I can have the Wii... then maybe they will no longer be video game nerds. So Jim maybe you should go get in line, how does that sound babe? and okay okay we'll share the Wii with the kids...sometimes
